Homesick

So people have asked me about missing home. I have never been the type of person who gets homesick. Iguess it comes from being a middle child. So when I they, I always say "no". However, there is something I do miss that I often take for granted back at home that I am find myself wishing I had. That thing is fast internet. Australia has upgraded to wireless, but compared to campus and home, it is sooooooo slow. Right now, I am talkign to a friend back home on Facebook and half of my messages are not getting through, so I type them in 3 times and then 3 minutes later, all 3 messages go through. So I can say that I do miss something back at home, but because of the environment and the people I have met, I feel like I am at home.

Jobless

How do you write a dance resume? My job search continues. I feel like giving up, but that also means that my extra 10 days in Sydney after classes end won't happen. I have given out so many resumes like free cookies or STDS. I feel like such a hustler....how do people live like this?

Well, I might have a lead. I am trying to teach African Dance in Manly. I was looking for dance classes for me to take and couldn't really found anything. So I decided to create a dance resume and maybe I can teach. That would be great. Wish me luck!

Confessions of a Sydney Partygoer

Odor

Going out is NOT a time to smell bad. We spend hours getting ready, picking out clothes, doing our hair, wondering where we are going, do we have enough money. So why overlook the shower? Recently, I was on a bus to downtown Sydney to go clubbing. I got on the bus and sat down. Since it was a Friday night, many people were going out. So why did I get the pleasure of sitting next to someone with a bad odor? This person was dressed nice, but somehow forgot to shower. I’m sorry, that is NO excuse. If you are going out anywhere, take a damn shower. I don’t know how I made it there without vomiting. It wasn’t a slight odor, it was just all-around bad! I kept turning my head away to not smell him. His odor was so bad, I thought that his bad odor would rub off on me. I know at the end of the night, after hopping from pub to club all night, sweating in cramped clubs, having drinks spilled on you, you are bond to be a little on the dirty side, but not BEFORE you do anything! Let this be a lesson, if you smell, go home!!!! Fix that immediately!!!!!

San Fran Disaster

So, as promised, here is my account of San Fran.

After sprinting through San Francisco Airport at top speed with two bags and a ticket to paradise, I watched my trip taxi before my eyes.

Before I get into that, let’s start at the beginning. I arrived in O’Hare Airport about 2-3 hours before my flight leaves. I have never traveled internationally, so I have no clue what I need to do in the airport. Apparently, not much because it was quick and painless...minus the part when my laptop sets off the machine. They then checked it and then patted me down. I was felt up and not even given a tip. So cheap...

Anyway, so I got lunch, called a few people, did a little reading, a few Sudoku puzzles and then I realized my gate had moved and the plane was delayed 45 minutes. So I freaked because there was only 15 minutes at best between my plane landing and the next one leaving for Sydney. I went to Customer Service to see if there was anything they could do. The best they could do was tell me to run and they could hold the plane. The girl next to me in line had the same issue and she was in tears. So we just prayed that things would be early or late, just as long as we got on the plane. We soon found out the there was 10 of us on the same flight going to Sydney. The pilot even made an announcement on the plane about the group of people to Sydney and that we need to be off first.

With my luck, the plane was late leaving O’Hare and then late getting to San Fran. And of course, no announcement was made for us, so we were pushing through people to get off the plane. Next thing you see is 10 people running at top speed through the airport, arms flailing through the air, dragging bags behind them. I didn’t even look back to see who was behind me, I just ran. I was so out of breath, but I kept going. Just when I thought I was there, there were more corners and stairs to climb. When I finally arrived to the terminal, there was another guy coming up the escalator telling us to go back, they are not letting us on the plane. The guy was from another flight trying to go to Sydney. So out of breath and confused, I stormed off cussing up a storm. It wasn’t even directed at anyone....I was just pissed!!! The agent at the gate told us to go to Domestics...okay, where is that? So the group of now 11 people, wondered the airport looking for Domestics and no one could give us a direct answer. The fact that we had to talk to a police officer or security person to get directions is ridiculous. So after sprinting a mile and then walking a mile in the airport, we arrived at the Customer Service desk in San Fran. They already had our hotel and food vouchers ready for us.....why didn’t you tell us this BEFORE we ran? I am sweating through my clothes! And if you knew we were going to miss it, then why are people telling us to run for the plane? BASTARDS!!!! After fighting with Customer Service for an hour, we all eventually just left for the hotel. At this point, we had all bonded through anger. We made it to the hotel and ate pizza and hung out until about 3am. It was easily the bright spot in the entire day.

The next day, we all decided to tour the city, but one problem....it rained ALL DAY! But we didn’t want to sit in the airport all day. So despite the rain and lack of funds, we took cab to the city and took a tour. We made the best of it, even though most of us were wearing the same clothes from the day before. After the tour of the city, we went back to the hotel and then to the airport...we were NOT missing this flight.

Finally, on the plane to Sydney, a day later, the pilot makes an announcement saying that we are waiting for people from another flight to connect. WHAT!!!!!!!!???!?!? WTF!!?!?! REALLY!!???!?? You are waiting today for like people, but you couldn’t wait for 11 people yesterday?! SCREW YOU UNITED! I was so mad! And all of us just stared at each other because we were all thinking the same thing and we were all pissed off, AGAIN!

And I have a 2 page single-spaced complaint for them too!

Adventure Begins

I finally made it to Sydney!!!! I never thought I would actually be here! (Especially after my fiasco in San Fran....to be posted later) I am adjusting quick...I think it's the weather. My mind wants to believe it's February, but it feels like July. Anyway, I am meeting people from all over the place. I register for classes today and hopefully I get what I want. Right now, it looks like I ony have class on Wednesdays and Thursdays, which would be amazing! I have to keep this brife because I am on break, but when I get my internet at home, I will be able to write more.
